PA Diversity Network receives grant from
Diversity Alliance Fund of
Berks County Community Foundation

In 2006, PA Diversity Network applied for and received a $20,000 grant from the Diversity Alliance Fund of Berks County Community Foundation. This two-year grant was awarded to PDN to expand the Valley Gay Press newspaper from 8 pages to 12, to cover events in the GLBTA community of Berks County, to add a regular Berks County columnist, to broadly circulate the Valley Gay Press via US mail to GLBTA people in Berks County, to add new VGP drop-off points in Berks County and to encourage Berks GLBTA people to join PDN as new members in an effort to support continued distribution of the Valley Gay Press when the grant ends.

At the end of one year of the grant, PDN has expanded the paper to 12 pages, covers Berks County inclusive GLBTA events and organizations as about 30% of the paper, has a new Berks County based feature columnist - Sue Sneeringer, has increased Berks County direct mail distribution of the VGP by 1000%, and now has over 38 VGP drop-off places in Berks County.

Throughout 2007, PA Diversity Network will continue to work on increasing the articles and information in the Valley Gay Press about events and organizations in Berks County, will do live presentations in Berks County on GLBT issues that include information on the Valley Gay Press, will seek additional drop-off points for the VGP, will work directly with Berks GLBTA organizations to help to present their news and information to the community and to support their events, will participate in Berks County GLBTA events to support the local GLBT community and to increase distribution and membership.

If you would like to volunteer with PA Diversity Network to support any of these efforts or any of PDN's other programs, please contact PDN by calling our offices at 610-432-5449 or by emailing

PA Diversity Network receives mini grant and
National Photo Contest Prize
from Freedom to Marry

In early February PA Diversity Network applied for and received a mini grant of $500 from the national organization Freedom to Marry.

The mini grants were available to not-for-profit organizations which are working on pro-same-sex-marriage efforts during Freedom to Marry week. PDN applied for the grant to support the PDN Photo Project - 100 Same-sex Couples: Facing Inequality. The money will cover some of the costs of framing the next 65 photos for the project.

PA Diversity Network has won the national Freedom to Marry photo contest with a photo of PDN Photo Project participants holding their photos at an exhibition of the project at the Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley.

The prize for the contest winner was $500. PA Diversity Network will donate half the prize to Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley for all their efforts with their Freedom to Marry rally and celebration. PDN will use the remainder of the prize to cover framing, matting and photo printing costs for the Photo Project.
