Interweave Continental had a visible presence at the recent Unitarian Universalist Association's General Assembly (GA) in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida -- with over 3000 attendees. During GA, Interweave hosted an annual banquet with a presention of the Mark DeWolfe award celebrating longtime outstanding achievement in queer activism. Interweave's winning sermon was delivered to much applause. Congratulations to the winner, Rev. Amy Zucker Morgenstern for her sermon, How to Be a Great Ally (available online).

Interweave co-sponsored & provided local speaker, Allyson Diane Hamm for a well-received & attended panel workshop called Cutting Across Oppressions, which encouraged activism crossing racial, gender & sexual orientation lines. It focused on anti-discrimination laws & the case of Susan Stanton, a transwoman who lost her job in a very public way & the positive UU response coming from diverse racial, religious & other backgrounds.

Volunteers staffed a colorful booth featuring "Hate is Easy, Love Takes Courage" t-shirts , spray-on tattoos, & helpful literature. (Look for these at LV Pride, too!) Interweave decided to offer booth space to the UU Legislative Ministry so that support could be given to the fight to retain California same-gender marriage rights.

Lastly, Interweave co-sponsored a powerfully moving public witness demonstration, "Standing on the Side of Love" in support of laws inclusive of ALL families, with a particular focus on immigration, marriage & adoption rights.

Locally, Interweave recently had an inter-generational dance & plans to have a booth at Pride in the Park. Stop by & say hi to find out more about Interweave. You can also check them out on facebook or email: allysondiane@hotmail.com.

    SilentWitness
Silent Witnesses of Central PA (SWPA) is an organization of gay and straight allies dedicated to helping the GLBT community have safe and peaceful events by providing a non-confrontational buffer between participants in GLBT events and those who would condemn them. We provide visual protection from \"street preachers\" and protesters at events such as Pridefests, the showing of films such as Jim in Bold, or staging of plays such as The Laramie Project, using our bodies and rainbow umbrellas as shields. In times of need, we intervene to prevent confrontations between protesters and event participants, often acting as escorts for those who would like to attend such events.

We are not counter-protesters. Instead, we provide a visual representation of support for those in our society who may feel marginalized. Our purpose is to act as a \"human spiritual firewall\" between GLBT folks and those individuals who believe GLBT\'s should be condemned. Silent Witnesses stand ready to prevent confrontations while welcoming and supporting GLBT participants to the event they are attending.
